Most of Captools/net computational functionality is provided by a group of application programs which run on the server computer or computers.  Multiple programs are used to provide these functions to take advantage of the operating system's ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously.  Thus, the Captools/net might be performing an automatic function like download of end of day quotes, while multiple users might be viewing or editing client data or generating reports.  Multiple applications also gives the option (at the higher program levels) to perform different tasks on different computers to gain higher computing performance.

Server Computer - In a single user installation, the server applications must run on the same computer as the CT/net desktop application.  For a multi-user installation, the server applications will be on a separate computer or computers which have been configured for the task.  This means the server computer(s) should be designed to operate as a server, meaning that it/they contain error correcting RAM memory and run a version of the Microsoft Windows operating system that has been optimized for server use.  The Server computer/s should also have sufficient speed, hard disk space, RAM and network connectivity to support the anticipated number of Captools/net users taking into account any other tasks that the computer will be expected to perform for non-Captools applications.
