Multi-user versions of Captools/net and higher versions need to be installed at the intended Captools/net server computer.  If you are installing a non-Enterprise version of Captools/net, this will also be the computer upon which the Captools/net database will reside.  The Captools/net installer will install a copy of the MS SQL-Express database engine on this computer if no existing installation of MS-SQL Server is found.

User/Rep. Id - Captools/net differs from the prior Captools/Windows software in that record access is controlled by "User/Rep Id".   The User or Rep Id, is a short identifier, which must uniquely identify each person who uses the system.  Before gaining access to the system, each user must log-on with their User/Rep Id and a password.  The User/Rep Id and passwords are set up and controlled by a System Administrator.  The system administrator also assigns each user rights which determine to which clients and accounts the user has access.  This topic is covered further in the chapter on System Administration,

MS-SQL Server Installation - MS-SQL Server "Standard" edition is generally not be required for Captools/net installations with three or fewer users and databases under 0.5 GB in size.  However, if you are installing MS-SQL Server "Standard" in order to alleviate these limits, it is preferable to install your licensed copy of MS-SQL Server on the target server prior to installing Captools/net.  However, if Captools/net has already been installed, such as the case of your upgrading to the Captools/net Enterprise version from a lower version, you may install MS-SQL Server over the existing installation of  MS SQL-Express, provided that during the MS-SQL Server installation you specify that you are "Upgrading" the exisiting installation.

If you are installing an Enterprise version of Captools/net, the MS-SQL Server may reside on the same computer on which you install Captools/net or may reside on another computer.  If the MS-SQL Server is on another computer, it should be one which has a close physical proximity to the Captools/net server computer with a high-speed network link to it.
